We hope you will enjoy exploring the Pennsylvania Highlands website and delve deeply into the substantial conservation and trail-planning information that has been assembled into one place. The Pennsylvania Highlands Trail Network as envisioned is being co-located with many existing trails in the region, from the D&L Trail in the easternmost Highlands to the Mason Dixon Trail west of the Susquehanna River. The Pennsylvania Highlands Trail Network (PHTN) will link these trails and many more across the 13-county Pennsylvania Highlands region.
To explore the PHTN, start by learning to use the Interactive Map, which depicts how the trails tie together across the region. There are multiple ways to view the layers of Trail Planning Segments and Sections and while you’re visiting the many trails in the network, don’t forget to toggle back and forth between the Terrain, Map, and Satellite views (at the top right corner of the Interactive Map).
The website is also the gateway to an impressive collection of conservation information such as the GIS Clearinghouse and the Land and Trails Tracking System. Here too you will find data on land acquisitions and much more.
Over the coming months we’ll be adding more content, updates to trail maps, trail news and outdoors activities. We look forward to hearing from you with suggested edits and new content. If you are an Instagram user we encourage you submit photos of trails, scenic views, parks, historic sites and other features from around the Pennsylvania Highlands. Use the hashtag: #pahighlands
