Planning And Conservation

The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) advances conservation and planning in the Pennsylvania Highlands region at the state, regional, and federal levels. This includes coordination of the Pennsylvania Highlands Coalition, a diverse public-private partnership that conserves critical natural resources and working and natural lands in the Pennsylvania Highlands. We work with coalition partners to advocate for federal conservation funding under the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Our work also includes critical GIS analysis and conservation tools that assists counties, municipalities, and land trusts in prioritizing land protection efforts across the Pennsylvania Highlands.

Conservation Tools

The Land Conservation and Trails Tracking System allows users to view statistics and new land conservation acquisitions for protected lands and trails within the Pennsylvania Highlands.

The Water Resources Interactive Map allows users to view and discover padding and fishing opportunities across the Pennsylvania Highlands.

The Circuit Trails Visual Assessment Reports identified potential land conservation opportunities within selected Circuit Trail viewsheds based on a conservation assessment that scored and ranked priority land.

The Parcel Level Analysis studies conducted in the Pennsylvania Highlands focus on parcel level analyses for land protection.
