The Quakertown Area Trails consist of individual trails and sidewalk routes that make up the Highlands Trail in Richland and Springfield Townships and Quakertown Borough.
The Quakertown Area Trails consist of individual trails and sidewalk routes that make up the Highlands Trail in Richland and Springfield Townships and Quakertown Borough.
Beginning in Veterans Park in Richland Township, the Highlands Trail route follows the paved trail through the park, heading east to Heller Road. The route continues south along the Heller Road sidewalk, with an on-road bike route. At Walnut Bank Farm Road, the trail continues south on the sidewalk with an on-road bike route. Just west of Schoolhouse Lane, the route follows a paved, off-road trail that continues south, ending at East Mill Street in the Borough of Quakertown.
Quakertown’s route follows sidewalks, with a signed, on-road bike route. The route follows East Mill Road west to Fourth Street; south on Fourth Street to Broad Street; west on Broad Street to Fifth Street; south on Fifth Street to Park Avenue; west on Park Avenue, crossing Route 309 and following Park Avenue to Mill Road.
After a short gap, the Highlands Trail route follows the Hunter’s Crossing Trail for its entire length, until its connection with the Brayton Garden Trail on the south side of Trumbauersville Road. The Highlands Trail route continues along the Brayton Garden Trail until its terminus at Great Blue Heron Park.
After another short gap, the Highlands Trail route follows the Barrel Run Trail west for just under a mile. After another gap, the Highlands Trail route follows the Unami Creek Trail for just under a mile to its terminus at the Kumry Road Trailhead. Plans to extend the Unami Creek Trail have been set forth in a Feasibility Study.
All of the multi-use trails that make up the Highlands Trail route in the Quakertown area have a paved, asphalt surface and the width varies between 6 and 12 feet. Sidewalks that make up the route also vary in width. Not including gap areas, trails in the Quakertown area total 8.1 miles.
