Currently, the Conewago Recreation Trail runs west from Mount Joy Township to West Donegal Township, ending at North Market Street/Route 230, just north of Elizabethtown in Lancaster County. The goal is to connect the Conewago Trail to the Northwest River Trail.

Conceptual Highlands Trail Route

Closing this 5 mile gap would create nearly a 30 miles of multi-use trail between the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail, Conewago Recreation Trail, and Northwest River Trail. A trail route for this segment has not been identified.
