Segment #4 Big Woods Trail – Horse-Shoe Trail

Big Woods Trail

This planning segment of the Pennsylvania Highlands Trail Network (PHTN) includes the partially developed 4.7 mile Big Woods Trail. The Big Woods Trail, named after Hopewell Big Woods in which it is located, begins at the Schuylkill River Trail in Union Township and heads south toward French Creek State Park. At French Creek State Park, the Big Woods Trail will connect to the Six Penny Trail and head west toward the Horse-Shoe Trail.

Horse-Shoe Trail

The PHTN will co-align along a 62.7 mile section of the Horse-Shoe Trail between French Creek State Park and the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail. The Horse-Shoe Trail is a 140 mile hiking and equestrian trail established in 1935.
