Last Wednesday, January 19, 2022, the House Natural Resources Committee held a mark-up session in which the Highlands Conservation Reauthorization Act (H.R. 2793) was one of nine bills adopted as part of a package by unanimous consent.
The bill already passed in the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources in November of 2021. Passage of H.R.2793 in the House and S.753 in the Senate are hopeful for 2022!
Continued support and advocacy are important as this bill still needs to be brought to the House and Senate floors for a vote before being sent to the President’s desk. Writing to your members of Congress and voicing support for this bill is a great way to get involved and push for this passage. If you have any questions about the bill or any outreach efforts, please contact Danielle Guttman, AMC’s Mid-Atlantic Conservation Outreach Manager, at dguttman@outdoors.org.
