About 10 miles of the Highlands Trail exist within Nockamixon State Park. The trail follows existing natural surface park trails, with newly created connecting trails in between. The Highlands Trail is planned to connect downtown Quakertown to Nockamixon State Park in the next phase of development.
Highlands Trail Route
The Highlands Trail is located on the northern side of Nockamixon State Park. It co-locates with the following park trails: High Bridge Trail, Old Quarry Trail, Old Mill Trail, Day Use Area/Marina Trail, Fox Run Trail, Highlands Connector Trail, Tohickon Lane Trail, the Haycock Road Trail, and a small portion of a mountain biking trail on the east side of the park. The trail crosses the lake using the shoulder along Rt. 563 for a short distance. Hikers should use extreme caution while using this section of trail. In late fall 2023, the Appalachian Mountain Club’s volunteer trail crew closed a one-mile trail gap between the Fox Run Trail and the Tohickon Lane Trail, named the Highlands Connector Trail.
The Highlands Trail route on Nockamixon’s State Park map is highlighted in yellow. Trails located on the south side of Nockamixon State Park are not part of the Highlands Trail route. The Highlands Trail’s official blaze is a teal diamond.
