Highlands Trail in the Quakertown Region

The Highlands Trail route in the Quakertown region uses trails, and within Quakertown Borough, the existing sidewalk system for pedestrians. Bicyclists share the road with vehicles within Quakertown Borough, so take care when traveling this section of the Highlands Trail. No bike lanes are provided at this time in the Borough. Signage has been installed along the 1.75 mile route through Quakertown. The signs, including Highlands Trail markers, direct trail users through Quakertown Borough and alert motorists to the presence of pedestrians and bicyclists along the route.

Highlands Trail Route 

From the north, the Highlands Trail enters the Borough from Richland Township at East Mill Street, just east of the Park at Fourth. Heading west on East Mill Street, the trail turns south when it reaches the intersection of East Mill Street and Fourth Street. The trail heads south until the intersection of Fourth Street and West Broad Street (Route 313), where it heads west until it reaches Fifth Street. At Fifth Street, the trail turns south and follows Fifth Street until it reaches Park Avenue. At Park Avenue, the trails heads west again to the intersection of Park Avenue and Route 309 (West End Boulevard). Extreme care should be taken when crossing this busy intersection. The trail heads west through the intersection of Park Avenue and Route 309, following Park Avenue until it meets Mill Road. A small gap exists between Mill Road and the northern end of the Hunter’s Crossing Trail in Richland Township. Click here to view a larger map of the route.

  • Upper Bucks Rail Trail (under construction) – 3.3 miles of crushed stone multi-use trail
  • Walnut Bank Farm Trail – sidewalk and paved multi-use trail, just under 1-mile
  • Quakertown sidewalk and road route – 2.0 miles of sidewalk, bicycles use the roads, use care and follow signage
  • Hunter’s Crossing Trail –  1.0 mile of paved, multi-use trail with a small sidewalk/on-road section on Bridle Path Drive
  • Brayton Gardens Trail – 1.3 miles of paved multi-use trail
  • Barrel Run Trail – 0.75 mile paved, multi-use trail
  • Unami Creek Trail – 0.82 mile paved, multi-use trail

  • Great Blue Heron Park, located on Dovecote Drive, Richland Township 
  • Kumry Road Trailhead, located on Kumry Road, Milford Township 

Nearby Destinations 

Quakertown’s Bucks County Visitor Center is located just a few blocks off the Highlands Trail route on Main Street, north of West Broad Street. Here, trail users can find information about events, historic resources, shopping, dining and more. Nockamixon State Park, located roughly 3 miles southeast of the Borough, offers many recreation opportunities, including overnight camping in cabins. The Park at Fourth includes the Univest Performance Center, which offers a Summer Concert Series.
