From the southern end of the Upper Bucks Rail Trail, the Highlands Trail continues along trails and sidewalks until it reaches Quakertown Borough to the south.
Highlands Trail Route
Beginning at the end of the Upper Bucks Rail Trail in Veterans Park, the Highlands Trail route follows paved trails within Veterans Park. The trail heads east along E. Pumping Station Road until it reaches the intersection of Heller Road and E. Pumping Station Road.The Highlands Trail route turns south and follows the sidewalk on Heller Road, with bicycles sharing the road with vehicles. At the intersection of Heller Road and Walnut Bank Farm Road, the Highlands Trail route follows the sidewalks along Walnut Bank Farm Road, with bicycles sharing the road with vehicles. On the south side of Walnut Bank Farm Road, just west of School House Lane, the Highlands Trail turns south and follows the paved trail in open space owned by Richland Township. The trail route continues south until it meets East Mill Street. From there, the Highlands Trail route turns west, following the sidewalk route in Quakertown Borough.

The route is 2.1 miles in length and consists of paved trail, sidewalk and on-road sections (for bicyclists). The trail is managed by Richland Township.
