In late December 2022, Congress released the 2023 Omnibus Appropriations Bill. Secured by Representative Brian Fitzpatrick, the bill included $1.7 million to support the design and engineering of the Quakertown Rail with Trail, an extension of the Upper Bucks Rail Trail.
The Upper Bucks Rail Trail officially opened in 2020 for users to enjoy. Currently, the Upper Bucks Rail Trail ends in Richland Township, and trail users are utilizing an indirect sidewalk route to reach Quakertown Borough.
The Quakertown Rail with Trail project will connect to nearly 12 miles of existing off-road multi-use trails that make up the PA Highlands Trail to the north including the Upper Bucks Rail Trail and the Saucon Rail Trail. To the south, it will connect to the Hunter’s Crossing Trail, the Brayton Gardens Trail, the Unami Creek Trail, and eventually to Green Lane borough.
