In Union Township, Berks County, the Highlands Trail route follows the Big Woods Trail and heads south, currently ending at Crusher Road. The Big Woods Trail is planned to connect to trails in French Creek State Park to the south.

Conceptual Highlands Trail Route

The Highlands Trail route will follow the Big Woods Trail as it heads south from Crusher Road though land owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State Game Commission. South of Park Road, the Highlands Trail route enters French Creek State Park and joins Six Penny Trail.
