Join the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) on Tuesday, May 16th from 1:30-3:00 PM for their webinar to discuss the findings of their study, Equity and Accessibility Assessment along the Highlands Trail in Pennsylvania. Please use the link below to register.
Description: The AMC in the Mid-Atlantic region conducted an Equity and Accessibility Assessment to better understand which portions of the Highlands Trail in Pennsylvania are ADA-accessible. The assessment sought to understand the demographic makeup of environmental justice communities adjacent to the trail that would inform outreach strategies to understand the community’s needs and wants in recreational areas that are close to their home.
The study includes a comprehensive and general assessment analyzing trailhead amenities and trail corridor features. The comprehensive assessment analyzed the 2.3-mile segment from Hugh Moore Park Trailhead to Forks of the Delaware Trailhead in the city of Easton along the D&L Trail. The general assessment analyzes other trail segments that make up a portion of the Highlands Trail from Easton to French Creek State Park, near Elverson, PA.
AMC’s Equity and Accessibility Assessment interactive map incorporates information collected in the general assessment, comprehensive assessment, socioeconomic factors by block group, and Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANTA) bus routes.
