The Highlands Trail passes though French Creek State Park, following the Six Penny Trail.

In Berks County, the Highlands Trail route follows the Six Penny Trail south of Route 345 / Chestnut Road within French Creek State Park. Following the Six Penny Trail south, the Highlands Trail route follows the Six Penny Trail hiking route that turns and heads southwest for a distance of one mile. The Highlands Trail route then meets with and follows the Horse-Shoe Trail west out of French Creek State Park.

This trail offers visitors a glimpse of the historic Six Penny Recreation Area where dam ruins and the park’s original picnic grounds can be seen. This trail is a natural surface hiking trail and is rated more difficult by DCNR.
