On May 11, 2017, the Natural Lands Trust held a Public Meeting at the Upper Salford Township Building to discuss the Fulshaw Craeg Preserve.
Meeting Activities
The Public Meeting was an interactive work-shop format. Meeting attendees were provided with maps to mark the locations of special areas of the Preserve as well as areas of concern. The public participated in an exercise to provide input on the most preferred activities they would like for the preserve, including hiking, bird watching, and horseback riding. Residents also used the maps to draw where they walk or would like to walk in the Preserve.
Preserve Manager Tom Kershner of NLT discussed existing conditions at the site, including the impact of the deer population on Preserve natural resources and the need to protect sensitive plant species and historic resources found in the Preserve. The input received at the public meeting will be used to prepare a Stewardship Plan for the site, which will guide the conservation and management of the site.
The PHTN in Fulshaw Craeg
The Pennsylvania Highlands Trail Network was also shown on the map, depicted as an on-road route through the preserve. In the future, the PHTN will connect to the Musser Scout Camp to the north, and the Rogers-Hiester Preserve to the south, eventually leading to the Perkiomen Trail.
