Micheaux State Forest gained another 1,100-acre this August, bringing its total acreage to 85,500. The addition of the land, known as the Eagle Rock Tract, was made possible with $1.5 million in funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, as well as with funding from DCNR and Greene and Franklin Counties.

The closing was orchestrated by the Conservation Fund, which, in the past decade, has helped to add over 3,000 acres to the park. The addition runs along South Mountain, a state-recognized Conservation Landscape in the the western part of the Pennsylvania Highlands, and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail runs through it. The Eagle Rock Tract will be managed by DCNR.

DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn has called the project “one of the more significant land conservation projects that I’ll probably be involved in.”
