Hay Creek Pedestrian Bridge Opening

This past Monday, November 15th, was the ribbon-cutting for a brand new pedestrian bridge in Birdsboro Borough, over Hay Creek.

This project was made possible through the partnership of Berks Nature, Hay Creek Watershed Association, the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Department of Community and Economic Development.

This much anticipated pedestrian bridge now allows for safe passage over the Hay Creek, to be loved by rock-climbers, hikers, mountain bikers, and more. This project was an important step to closing trail gaps in the southern PA Highlands and Hopewell Big Woods area. The first of two bridges planned in the park, we one day hope to see the link closed between Birdsboro Preserve (near the Horse-Shoe Trail) and the Borough of Birdsboro (near the Schuylkill River Trail). Berks Nature and the Hay Creek Watershed Association hope that the completion of this part of the gap can build community support for the second bridge undertaking.

Be sure to visit Rustic Park and take a stroll over the newly constructed bridge, located at 1314 Haycreek Road in Birdsboro.
