A roughly one-mile gap is located between the south end of the South Bethlehem Greenway and the north end of the Saucon Rail Trail. Connecting the Saucon Rail Trail to the South Bethlehem Greenway will provide 13 miles of continuous, off-road multi-use trail, and will connct to the D&L Trail in Bethlehem.

Municipalities that may be involved in the planning and development of the Highlands Trail in this area include the city of Bethlehem and the Borough of Hellertown in Northampton County.
