PennDOT Provides Passage for Highlands Trail in Upper Salford

At a June 2017 meeting in Upper Salford Township, PennDOT representatives and McCormick Taylor engineers provided details about how the Pennsylvania Highlands Trail Network (PHTN) will pass under Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) in Upper Salford Township

PennDOT will repair three bridges on Route 63 in the area and one of them, the bridge over the Ridge Valley Creek, will accommodate foot traffic for the PHTN. The engineering plans show the trail passing underneath the Ridge Valley Creek bridge, on the south/east side of the creek along a 10-foot wide right-of-way. Engineers indicated the clearance under the bridge will be about 8 feet high. This crossing provides future PHTN trail users a way to cross Route 63 without conflicting with motor vehicles. The goal is to connect the PHTN to the Perkiomen Trail at Green Lane County Park.
