PennDOT Provides Passage for PHTN in Upper Salford
At a recent meeting in Upper Salford Township, representatives from PennDOT and engineers from McCormick Taylor provided details about how the Pennsylvania Highlands Trail Network (PHTN) will pass under Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) in Upper Salford Township.
PennDOT will be repairing three bridges in the area and one of them, the bridge over the Ridge Valley Creek, will accommodate foot traffic for the PHTN. The engineering plans show the trail passing underneath the Ridge Valley Creek bridge, on the south/east side of the creek along a 10-foot wide right-of-way. Engineers indicated the clearance under the bridge will be about 8 feet high. This crossing provides future PHTN trail users a way to cross Route 63 without conflicting with motor vehicles.
